Using Test My Kid

Test My Kid is an adaptive math and reading assessment tool at testmykid.org, operated by Jun Loayza. By using it, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the service. Our mailing address, email address and phone number are listed in the Privacy Policy.

Who can use this service

Parents and legal guardians who are 18 or older create the accounts. Children take the assessments themselves, on a parent's device, after a parent sets the test up. Children do not create accounts. If you create an account and add a child profile, you represent that you are the child's parent or legal guardian, and that you consent on the child's behalf to the collection and use of the information described in our Privacy Policy.

A new account agrees to these terms and the Privacy Policy once, on a one-time screen right after signing in with Google, by confirming that you are 18 or older and the parent or legal guardian of any child you add. We record the time you agreed and which version of these terms you agreed to. Accounts created before we added that screen were not asked.

You are responsible for the assessments, child profiles, and account settings you create.

What the assessment is, and isn't

The results we provide are a snapshot to help you understand approximately where your child is performing today, and where they might grow next. They are not a formal educational evaluation, a diagnostic tool, a substitute for a teacher's judgment, or a credential. They are one data point from a 10-question test on one day.

We frame results with a growth-mindset perspective because we believe it's a healthier way to look at learning. Don't treat the grade-level estimate as a verdict on your child.

Service provided as-is

Test My Kid is provided as-is, with no warranties. We don't guarantee that the service will always be available, that it'll be free of bugs, or that it'll stay online forever. We may add, change, or remove features without notice.

To the maximum extent allowed by law, we're not liable for any losses or damages arising from your use of Test My Kid, including but not limited to data loss, missed expectations about results, or decisions made based on the grade-level estimate.

Subscriptions, billing, and cancellation

Test My Kid is free to start. Each family has full access for free until a child completes their first assessment, and then for 30 days after that. To keep taking new assessments after the trial, a family subscribes for $99 per year, plus any applicable sales tax. Your past reports and results remain viewable whether or not you subscribe.

Subscriptions renew automatically each year at $99 plus tax, charged to the payment method on file, unless you cancel before the renewal date. You can cancel anytime from your account (Settings, then Billing, then Manage billing). Canceling stops future renewals. You can also manage or cancel it in the Recurring section of your Link account, but canceling there does not run our refund process, so if you are still in your first year, cancel from your account or write to us instead. Unless you receive a refund under the guarantee below, you keep access through the end of the period you have already paid for.

1-year money-back guarantee: if you are not satisfied during your first year of paid service, cancel within that first year and we will refund your most recent annual payment in full. When you cancel within the first year, we issue the refund right away and your access ends at that time. Refunds go to your original payment method and may take 5 to 10 business days to appear. Renewals after the first year are not refundable, though Stripe may still choose to issue a refund in some cases.

Deleting your account settles the membership the same way. If you own a family and no other adult in it is an admin, deleting your account deletes that family and cancels its membership right away: within the first year we refund the most recent annual payment in full, and after the first year there is no refund and access ends at once. If another adult in the family is an admin, the family and its membership pass to them and continue.

Payments are processed by Stripe. Its affiliate, Sold through Link, LLC, is the merchant of record for your purchase and handles applicable taxes. Card details are entered on Stripe's own checkout page and never reach our servers, and your purchase is also subject to the Link customer terms shown at checkout.

Your account and your data

You can stop using Test My Kid at any time. You can delete a single assessment from its own result page, a child profile from Settings, then Family, and your entire account from Settings, then Account.

Deleting does not remove everything everywhere at once. Deleting your account removes your sign-in record and profile, and the children and assessments of any family you manage on your own. Some records are kept for a limited time or as the law requires, such as analytics events, emails already sent and payment records at Stripe. Deleting a child deletes that child's past assessments with them. We also delete a family's children and their results automatically 3 years after anyone in the family last used Test My Kid, unless the family has a paid or complimentary membership. What is kept, and for how long, is listed in How long we keep information. The Privacy Policy covers what we collect and how, and how to ask us to delete anything or stop collecting it.

Acceptable use

Please don't abuse the service. That means: don't try to gain unauthorized access to anyone else's account or data, don't scrape the service, don't use it to distribute malware, and don't attempt to reverse-engineer the security we have in place. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms.

Changes to these terms

If we change these terms in a material way, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page before the change takes effect, and we will tell you directly where the law requires it.
